#23 women continue best start since 2018 with 2-0 win over Wheaton

WALTHAM, Mass. – Thanks to a pair of first-half goals, the 23rd-ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team defeated visiting Wheaton College, 2-0, as the Judges improved to 9-1 for the first time since 2018.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis, 9-1, ranked #23 in Division III by United Soccer Coaches
  • Wheaton, 4-3-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges got all the scoring they would need near the midpoint of the first half. Junior midfielder Briar Grady (Natick, Mass./Natick) corralled a ball on the far sideline. She fed the ball to sophomore forward Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India/Indus International School), who blasted a ball from 30 yards out on the left side of the field into the right netting in the 22nd minute.
  • The goal was Raju's team-leading seventh of the season and her second game-winner. The assist was Grady's first helper of the season.
  • Brandeis doubled their lead in the 35th minute. Sophomore back Abby Kenkelen (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill) crossed a ball from the left side onto the waiting head of grad student forward Sydney Lenhart (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic). Lenhart buried it for her first goal of the season.
  • The assist was Kenkelen's first of her career, while the goal was the 15th of Lenahrt's career.
  • That was enough scoring for the Judges, as they held Wheaton to just five shots, two on goal.
  • Emma-Jane Parsons was denied on a loose ball in the fifth minute when grad student Rachel Ross (Portchester, N.Y./Somers) came off her line. Ali Roche's shot in the 69th minute was denied by Ross to complete the clean sheet.
  • With the win, the Judges close out their non-conference slate at 9-1, their best start since going 10-1 in 2018.
  • Brandeis improves to 13-5-1 all time against Wheaton.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday to take on #4 Carnegie Mellon at 11 a.m., in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams.
