Volleyball falls to Babson, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University volleyball team suffered its first 3-0 loss of the season tonight, falling to local rival Babson by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-15, in Red Auerbach Arena.

  • Brandeis: 4-2.
  • Babson: 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges were in both of the first two sets until late.
  • The opener was tied at 19 and again at 22 before the Beavers forced the Judges into three straight errors to take the set.
  • Brandeis owned a 13-7 lead in the second set and were still ahead at 17-14 when the Beavers scored six in a row to take a 20-17 lead. Brandeis clawed to within 23-22 after a pair of Lara Verstovsek (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) kills, but the Beavers won two of the last three points to earn the win.
  • Babson opened the third set on runs of 6-0 and 10-1 before cruising to the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Verstovsek continued her excellent play of late, leading all players with 14 kills. She also placed third on the team with seven digs.
  • Sophomore Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) notched eight kills, but no other Brandeis player had more than three.
  • Senior setter Ines Grom-Mansencal (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) had 21 assists and eight digs, tied with first-year Alexis Pohlmann (St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) for team-high honors.
  • Another first-year, Hannah Waldron (Erie, Colo./Niwot) set a career-high with four blocks.

  • The Judges travel to Clark University on Thursday at 6 p.m.
