WALTHAM, Mass. – Three different players registered double figures in kills tonight as the Brandeis University volleyball team came from two sets to one down tonight to defeat visiting Salve Regina in the opening match of the 2023 Brandeis Invitational, the season opener for both teams. Set scores were 21-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 15-6.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Judges were led by junior Honorable Mention All-American Lara Verstovsek (Houston, Texas/Episcopal), who registered a terrific all-around game. She had a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs, while leading the squad with four service aces and a pair of block assists. Verstovsek finished with a team-high 18 points.
- Sophomore Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) led the Judges with 15 kills, and just missed a double-double with nine digs, marking a career-high.
- Rookie Hannah Waldron (Erie, Colo./Niwot) also reached double figures in kills, totaling 13 in her collegiate debut. Waldron had five of her 13 kills in the fourth set. She also had just three errors in her 25 attacks for a team-high .400 hitting percentage.
- Senior setter Ines Grom-Mansencal (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) matched Verstovsek's double-double with 46 assists and 15 digs. The 46 digs were the second-highest total of her career, trailing a 54-assist performance as a sophomore in 2021.
- First-year Olivia Nirode (Keller, Texas/Keller) led all players with 19 digs in her first collegiate match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a tale of alternating sets in the first four. The Judges hit below .200 in sets one and three, but were above that mark in sets two, four and five, including an impressive .471 percentage in the fifth (9 kills, 1 error, 17 attacks).
- SRU had two sets in which hit made as many errors as kills, finishing with a .000 hitting percentage in both the second and fifth.
- Brandeis never trailed in the second set, while in the fourth they overcame 15 ties and nine lead changes to secure the victory.
- For the match, the Judges had a .201 hitting percentage (60 kills, 26 errors, 169 attacks), while holding SRU to .128 (46 kills, 25 errors, 164 attacks).
