WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Brandeis University volleyball team battled from two sets down to force a decisive fifth set, but the host Wellesley College Blue bounced back to take the 3-2 victory in the Judges' final non-conference road match of the regular season. Set scores were 23-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 13-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue edged the Judges in the first two sets, winning by a total of five points. They featured 13 ties and eight lead changes.
- Brandeis was ahead, 17-13, in the first set before Wellesley won eight in a row to take a 21-17 lead. The Blue were ahead, 24-20, but the Judges fought off the first three set points before falling, 25-23.
- The second set was a similar story, with the home team running off six points in a row to turn an 8-6 deficit into a 12-8 lead that they did not relinquish. Wellesley was ahead 24-19 before the Judges made a late charge, fending off another three set points before the Blue took it, 25-22.
- Brandeis controlled the third set, with only two ties and no lead changes. They outhit Wellesley, .345 to .057 and cruised to the 25-14 win.
- The Judges evened things out in a tightly contested fourth set. Wellesley led by as many as four points at 11-7 and were still ahead at 14-11 when Brandeis called a timeout. The Judges closed by scoring 14 of the last 19 points to even things up with a 25-19 win. Brandeis again outhit the Blue, .371 to .194.
- In the fifth set, neither team went ahead by more than one point in the early going. Brandeis took a two-point lead when an Arianna Jackson (Lewis Center, Ohio/Oletangy Orange) kill made it 8-6 at the changeover.
- Wellesley won the next three points on a pair of Judge errors to take a 9-8 lead.
- Brandeis evened things up at 9-all after a Wellesley service error, but the Blue's Mary Beeler had back-to-back kills to give the hosts an 11-9 lead. They pushed it to 13-10, but Brandeis battled back after a timeout to get within 13-12 on a kill by Tatiana Wainer (North Miami Beach, Fla./ Schech Hillel Community) kill, forcing Wellesley to call timeout.
- The Blue won the next point on a Kate Giang kill to earn their first match point at 14-12. They were forced into an error as Brandeis closed to within 14-13, but Giang closed things out with a kill, 15-13.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brandeis junior Lara Verstovsek (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) led all players and matched her career-high with 25 kills, a figure she also reached in a five-set loss to Smith last week. She had nine errors in 60 attempts for a .267 hitting percentage. Verstovsek also added 13 digs for her 11th double-double of the season.
- Sophomore Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) added 14 kills and hit at a .263 clip. Jackson and Wainer had eight and seven kills each.
- Sophomore Julia Liang (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) had 44 assists and helped the Judges hit .233 as a team.
- Senior Ella Pereira (Redondo Beach, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep) had 28 digs to lead Brandeis defensively, while Jackson and senior Rita Lai (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) each had six blocks to pace the net defense.
- This was Brandeis's fourth five-set match of the season, and the Judges fell to 2-2. In three of the four matches, the Judges fell behind 0-2 before rallying to force a fifth set. They won one of those matches and lost the other two.
