CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – At the 2023-24 Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) meet, the Brandeis University fencing teams picked up a total of six wins. The women posted a 4-4 record (3-4 in the NFC), while the men went 2-4 (1-4 in the NFC).

TOP PERFORMERS - SQUADS
- The top performing squads on the day for the Judges were men's sabre and women's epee, who each posted four wins.
- Men's sabre won a key 8-1 victory in a narrow 14-13 win over Vassar. They also won 6-3 decisions over Boston College and MIT in NFC matches and Wagner in a non-league match. The squad improved to a team-best 11-6 on the season.
- Women's epee also had three wins by a 6-3 score, including in a 14-13 win over Wellesley, as well as in wins over Sacred Heart and MIT. They also picked up 5-4 win in a 19-8 loss to Brown.
TOP PERFORMERS – INDIVIDUAL WOMEN
- The Judges' top performer on the day was first-year women's sabre fencer Olga Sadova (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott), who was the only Brandeis women's competitor on the day to earn at least one win against all eight opponents. She posted 14 total wins, including going 3-0 against Wellesley and 2-1 against Vassar, Wagner, MIT and Tufts.
- Sophomore squad-mate Kat Xikes (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) had 12 wins, including 3-0 against Vassar and 2-1 against Wellesley, Sacred Heart and Wagner. Junior Calla Lee (Duluth, Ga./Lambert) was key for the short-handed women's sabre squad, as she changed from epee to sabre for the meet, earning seven wins.
- Two fencers reached double-digit wins for the foil squad. Sophomore Hannah Du (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) matched Sadova's 14-win total, including 3-0 wins over Sacred Heart and Vassar. First-year Livvy Oliveria (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) had 12 wins.
- Another first-year led the women's epee squad, Vera Merrill Witte (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood), who had 13 wins, including 3-0 against Brown.
TOP PERFORMERS – INDIVIDUAL MEN
- With two fewer matches, the men produced two nine-bout winners on the day.
- For the epee squad, junior Mark Shamis (San Jose, Calif./Leigh) had nine victories, joining Sadova in picking up at least one win against all six opponents. He had 2-1 records against Brown, Vassar and Wagner to reach the nine-win plateau.
- First-year Matthew Chaves (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) also recorded nine wins, including against five of six opponents. He had two 3-0 matches, against Vassar and MIT.
- The men's foil squad was paced by first-year Jack Sullivan (Somerville, Mass./Greater Commonwealth Virtual School), who earned five wins.
