Judges drop second-straight four-setter to Emerson

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University volleyball team dropped its second-straight four-set match of the week tonight as the Judges dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Emerson College. Set scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19.

  • Brandeis: 7-11.
  • Emerson: 12-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams traded the first two sets, as the Lions took the first, 25-16, while the Judges took the second, 25-20.
  • The teams' hitting percentage was the difference early in the contest, as the visitors had a .286 to .053 advantage in the first set, while Brandeis owned a .231 to  -.026 margin in the second.
  • After a tight third in which Emerson scored six of the last nine points to take a 25-22 win, the visitors took the fourth thanks to a 7-1 run that snapped a 13-all tie. With the Lions ahead, 20-14, the teams traded points the rest of the way with EC taking the fourth, 25-19.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandeis was paced offensively by junior Lara Verstovsek (Houston, Texas/Episcopal), who had 13 kills. She also added 12 digs to record her eighth double-double of the season.
  • Sophomore Anna Ertischek (Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek) added 11 kills, giving her double digits in seven of the last eight matches.
  • Senior Rita Lai (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) added nine kills and a team-high three block assists.
  • Senior Ella Pereira (Redondo Beach, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep) led the defensive effort with a season-high 19 digs to lead all players.
  • Sophomore Julia Liang (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) dished out her career-high in assists for the second match in a row with 35.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges play host to the third University Athletic Association Round Robin of the season on Sunday, taking on #5 Emory at 10 a.m. and the University of Rochester at 12 noon.
