Box Score

SALEM, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's basketball team had a dominant middle two quarters tonight, outscoring host Salem State, 33-10, in that span as the Judges defeated the Vikings, 59-34, in a non-conference contest tonight. The Judges improved to 4-2 with the win, while SSU fell to 3-3.

Brandeis held Salem State to just 13 percent shooting in the middle 20 minutes. The Judges held the hosts to 1-for-13 in the second period, outscoring them 17-2, and 3-for-17 in the third for a 16-8 scoring margin. Brandeis extended their lead to as many as 37 points early in the fourth quarter.

Brandeis was paced by sophomore guard Sarah Jaromin (E. Greenbush, N.Y. / Columbia), who matched her career high with 12 points off the bench by hitting her first four 3-point shots. The Judges also got 11 points from rookie forward Hannah Nicholson (Sunderland, Vt. / Burr and Burton Acad.), who also came off the bench. She scored all of her points in the first half, including seven in the second period. Jaromin outscored the SSU reserved by herself as the Brandeis bench outpointed their counterpards, 33-12.

The Judges also dominated the boards, outrebounding Salem State, 58-37. Senior center Maria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) led the charge with a season-high 13 caroms. It was her first game of the season in double digits and the ninth of her career. Senior guard Kyla Gabriel (Tivoli, N.Y./Red Hook) and classmate forward Sydney Sodine (New York, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) each had eight boards. Gabriel led all players with three assists – two fewer than the entire SSU roster – while junior Noel Hodges (Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and junior Eva Hart (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) each had three steals.

Salem State was paced by forward Tyra Scott, who had 11 points and seven rebounds. Guard Kaitlyn Bryant finished with six points and a team-high eight boards. The Vikings struggled from beyond the arc, missing all 19 of their 3-point attempts.

Brandeis is back in action on Saturday against Johnson and Wales University at 12 noon.
