WENHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University women's soccer team
scored goals early and late to earn their first road win of the
season, 2-0, at Gordon College.
The Judges (5-1-2) got all the scoring they needed early in the
first half. Senior Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury,
N.Y./Syosset) recorded her second goal of the season on an assist
from sophomore Alanna Torre (Weston, Fla./American
Heritage School) in the seventh minute. The goal moved Gorenkoff
into eighth place on Brandeis's career scoring list with 67 points,
three behind Tina Mowrey '93 for seventh.
The Judges could have extended the lead even more if not for a
heroic effort by Gordon (3-5) netminder Abby Ytzen, who made nine
of her 11 saves in the first half. Ytzen amde consecutive saves on
sophomore Mimi Theodore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole),
sophomore Kelly Doolittle (Bristol, Conn./Bristol
Eastern) and Torre in the 38th minute. The Judges added an
insurance goal in the 84th minute when Theodore pounced on a
misplay by Ytzen and scored her fourth goal of the season.
