PROVIDENCE, R.I. (taken from an RIC release) -- Senior
Cassidy Dadaos (Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg) had
12 points and junior Carmela Breslin (McKees
Rocks, Pa./Oakland Catholic) added 11 as the Brandeis women's
basketball team, ranked No. 5 in the nation, defeated host Rhode
Island College, 77-47, in the Judges' final regular-season
non-conference contest. With the win, Brandeis improves to 10-0
headed into their University Athletic Association (UAA) opener on
Friday at 6 p.m. against top-ranked and unbeaten Rochester, who
defeated Scranton, 49-38, this evening.
The Judges opened the game with an 8-0 spurt, led by
back-to-back conventional three-point plays by Dadaos and junior
backcourt mate Jessica Chapin (Mendon,
N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima).
The Anchorwomen (4-7) bounced back with an 8-2 run of their own,
paced by two Stephanie Coro 3-pointers. The comeback was
short-lived, however, as the Judges erupted for a 20-1 run to build
a 30-9 advantage with just under four minutes left in the first
half. RIC built some momentum to cut the deficit to 34-18 at the
break. RIC shot just 21.7 percent (5-for-23) and turned the ball
over 17 times in the first 20 minutes.
Brandeis did not allow the Anchorwomen to get any closer than 17
points over the final half. Each of the Judges' 14 players who saw
action in the game scored at least two points as Brandeis' bench
held a 37-13 scoring advantage. In addition to her 12 points,
Dadaos led the club with a team-high six boards, three assists and
a block. Breslin scored all of her 11 points in the second half.
In addition to Coro, who tallied a game- and career-high 23
points, RIC junior forward Cassi Malec (Gloucester, R.I.) and
classmate guard LaSheena Boyd (Stratford, Conn.) chipped in with
nine and eight points, respectively. Freshman forward Rachel Riley
(Coventry, R.I.) matched her season-high with 10 rebounds. The
Anchorwomen held an advantage on the glass, outrebounding Brandeis,
40-36.
