WALTHAM, Mass. –  Women’s tennis senior Bhakti Parwani of Ahmedabad, India, and baseball first year relief pitcher Brady Lane of Hingham, Massachusetts, have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 23. The Brandeis Athlete of the Week program is presented by The Chateau Restaurant and Jake N Joes Bar and Grill.

Parwani helped the Judges go 2-0 during the week with a pair of 7-0 wins, over Wheaton College at home and #33-ranked Skidmore College on the road. She was 4-0 with matches at #1 doubles and #1 and #2 singles. Against Wheaton, she teamed with classmate Sabrina Loui of Honolulu, Hawaii, for a 6-3 doubles win and won, 6-2, 6-1, at #1 singles. Against Skidmore, Parwani and junior Rebecca Suarez of New York, New York, earned a 6-4 victory, and Parwani had a 6-4, 6-2 win at #2 singles.

Overall this season, Parwani and Suarez are 4-2 in doubles, while Parwani is 6-4 overall. In singles action, she is 2-7. Her wins helped the #25-ranked Judges snap a six-match losing streak, all coming against top-40 opponents in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III national rankings. Brandeis is scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, March 29th against Division II Franklin Pierce, and on Sunday, March 30th, against Nichols College.

Lane was nearly perfect in relief for the Judges, allowing just one runner to reach on an error in three innings of work. He retired the side in the final innings of a 6-0 win over Wentworth on Wednesday afternoon, and in a doubleheader sweep of Coast Guard, 3-2 and 4-1, on Saturday. Lane earned a save in both ends of the twin-bill against the Bears, and is ranked second in the University Athletic Association and tied for eighth in all of Division III with four saves for the campaign. Lane has a 2.89 earned run average and 11 strikeouts and three walks in 9.1 innings of work.

For his efforts, Lane was also named the relief pitcher on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

The Judges, with an 8-9 record, have already surpassed their win total from 2024. The Judges take on local rivals Lasell University on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., with a UAA series against the University of Chicago starting on Friday at 3 p.m. The Judges and Maroons will be meeting for the first time since 1997 as Chicago rejoins the league after a stint in the Midwest Conference.
