WALTHAM, Mass. –  Sophomore Maddox Yu of Ridgefield, Connecticut, and graduate student Rachel Ross of Portchester, New York, of the men’s and women’s soccer teams have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending  November 3. The Brandeis Athlete of the Week program is presented by The Chateau Restaurant and Jake N Joes Bar and Grill.

Yu scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute as the men’s soccer team defeated Case Western Reserve, 2-1, on the road on Nov. 3. He knocked home a rebound of a shot from junior Elan Romo to give Brandeis its fourth University Athletic Association win of the season.
Brandeis improved to 8-5-2 overall, 4-2 in the UAA with the win. Their win total is their highest since 2019, while their four conference wins are their most since 2017. The Judges are still alive for a share of the UAA title – a win over New York University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., coupled with a loss by Emory against Rochester, would give Brandeis a conference title for the third time and first since 2015. Emory has already clinched the UAA’s bid to the NCAA Division III tournament with a head-to-head win over the Judges in October.

Ross made six saves in goal for the Brandeis women’s soccer team as they picked up their first UAA point of the season after drawing Case Western Reserve, 1-1. She kept the Judges in the contest late in the game after Brandeis was assessed a red card with about three-and-a-half minutes to go in the game. Ross is tied for the UAA lead in total saves with 57 this season, and her 6.33 saves per game in UAA contests leads the league as well.

Brandeis has a 9-6-1 record this season. The Judges were ranked as high as #20 in Division III this season and started their campaign with a 9-1 record, but the Judges dropped four 1-0 contests to nationally-ranked UAA opponents. The Judges will conclude their regular season at 12 p.m. on Sunday against NYU.

This is the ninth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes

Owned and operated by the Nocera Family, the Chateau Restaurant of Waltham opened in 1933 and set the standard for providing the tradition of Italian family dining, friendly service and quality food at reasonable prices for its customers.  Located on 195 School Street, with 900 seats, the Chateau is always ready to accommodate large parties.

"Brandeis student-athletes are fantastic role models in our community,” says Chateau President Joe Nocera, “They exemplify the ideals of excellence and commitment both on and off the playing field.
