Dylan Walters of the men’s tennis team have been named the second Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the 2023-24 season. The award is presented weekly by the Chateau Restaurant Group.
Lenhart, of
Tucson, Arizona, notched a hat trick during the Judges’ 5-1 win at Roger Williams last Wednesday. She scored the team’s second, third and fourth goals of the game, including the game-winner, her third of the season. The win improved the 22
nd-ranked Judges to 5-0-3 before suffering a 1-0 loss to top-ranked Carnegie Mellon in their University Athletic Association opener on Saturday.
Overall this season, Lenhart leads the Judges with five goals and 11 points. She is tied for seventh in the UAA in goals and 10
th in points. Her three game-winners are tied for the league lead.
The 5-1-3 Judges return to action this week with a home match against Southern Maine on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. and a road contest at UAA rivals #3-ranked Washington University, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Including those two contests, the Judges will have faced three-straight unbeaten opponents.
Walters, of
Baltimore, Maryland, reached the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional Championships. He was on of the tournament's (9-16) seeds. Walters opened the tournament with a three-set win over an Amherst opponent, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. He then had a straight-set win over a Tufts player, 7-5, 7-5. He then advanced to the round of 16 facing a player from Wesleyan. Walters had an easier time with another straight-set win 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. He advanced to the quarterfinals, where he faced the fourth seed from Babson, ultimately winning two of the three sets. In the first set, he won, 6-2. In the second set, he lost by the same score, but rallied in the third, to clinch the match with a score of 6-3, advancing him to the semifinals. On the third day, Walters played against the first seed from Williams, falling, 6-0, 7-5.
The Judges conclude the fall portion of their season at Salem Country Club against Boston U. and Merrimack on Oct. 13-15.
