WALTHAM, Mass. -- First-year
Ashley Korbul of
Staten Island, New York, and sophomore
Aidan Wang-Fan of
Richmond Hills, Ontario, members of the women’s track and field and men’s tennis teams, have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 19. The Brandeis Athlete of the Week program is presented by The Chateau Restaurant and Jake n JOES Sports Grille.
Korbul competed with the women’s track and field team at the Georgia Tech Invitational against a largely Division I and II field. She placed third in the unseeded high jump at the event with a mark of 1.62 meters, an outdoor personal best and ranking her 35th in Division III this season. Korbul also ran 12.61 seconds in the 100-meter dash. She was 81st overall but tops among Division III competitors, taking 0.5 seconds off her PR, continuing a 3-meet streak of PRing in the 100. This improves upon her number seven mark on Brandeis’s all-time list, set last weekend.
Korbul and the Judges will compete at the 2026 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at Case Western Reserve University. Korbul won the UAA title in the high jump earlier this year indoors.
Wang-Fan won three matches for the #20-ranked Judges’ men’s tennis team last week. He earned the team’s lone point in a 6-1 loss to #9 Bowdoin College with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at #6. He and partner Oliver Lorenz pushed the region’s top-ranked doubles team to a 7-5 decision in that match. In a key match-up against University Athletic Association rivals #24 NYU, Wang-Fan posted a pair of wins, 6-4 at #2 doubles along with Lorenz, and the match-clinching win at #6 singles, a 6-4, 6-3 victory at #6. Brandeis defeated the Violets, 4-3. Wang-Fan was also edged in three sets in a match against #15 Babson, 6-2, 6-7, 1-6, in a 5-2 loss.
WAng-Fan and the Judges head to Altamonte Springs, Florida, to compete in the 2026 UAA Tournament. Brandeis is the sixth seed in the tournament and will meet third-seeded and sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve in the opening round.
