Kat Xikes of
Chatham, New Jersey, have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 1. The Brandeis Athlete of the Week program is presented by The Chateau Restaurant and Jake n JOES Sports Grille.
Competing at the 2026 Eric Sollee Invitational, the final home matches of their careers, Edelman and Xikes went a combined 21-0 for their respective saber squads. Edelman was 9-0 for the men, while Xikes was 12-0 for the women. Edelman helped the Brandeis men post a 5-0 overall record. He went 5-0 in two matches against Stevens, 3-0 against Hunter College and 1-0 against NJIT. The Judges also upset #13-ranked NYU in a match that Edelman did not participate in. Xikes was 3-0 against NJIT, NYU, Hunter and Stevens as the women went 3-1, with their only loss coming to NYU, the top-ranked Division III team in NCAA fencing.
The Brandeis men improved their overall record to 11-13 on the season, while the women improved to 7-15. The Judges will travel to North Carolina this weekend, where the men will fence at Duke’s Beguinet Classic on Saturday, Feb. 7, while the women will fence at the University of North Carolina’s Miller Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 8.
This is the tenth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights top Brandeis student-athletes who have had an outstanding athletic achievement in the week prior. Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake n JOES.
