#19 men's tennis drops 6-1 decision at #9 Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The 19th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team faced their fourth top-15 opponent of the season today, but the Judges dropped a 6-1 decision to the #9-ranked Bowdoin College Polar Bears.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 10-6, ranked #19 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
  • Bowdoin: 13-3, ranked #9 in DIII by the ITA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams were as close as could be in doubles action, with the three matches being decided by a total of four points. Bowdoin won, 7-5 and #1 and 7-6 at #2 to earn the doubles point, while Brandeis junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and sophomore David Wang (Shanghai, China/Shanghai United International School) won 7-6 at #3.
  • The Polar Bears won five of six singles matches, all in straight sets. Brandeis's lone win came at #6, where sophomore Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) claimed a 7-6, 6-4, victory.
  • Four of the Judges' six defeats this season have now come at the hands of top 15 foes, with an additional loss against a Division I opponent.
UP NEXT
  • The Judges will take #24 NYU tomorrow at 11 a.m. in a key match for seeding the upcoming University Athletic Association tournament.
