WALTHAM, Mass. – In a match that will help determine seeding for the 2026 University Athletic Association tournament, the 25
th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team defeated UAA rivals from the University of Rochester, 6-1, at the Cordish Tennis Center today.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis: 10-4, ranked #25 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
- Rochester: 6-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges rolled to the first point of the match by sweeping doubles and losing just four games in total. They won 6-2 at #1 and 6-1 and #2 and #3.
- Rochester picked up its lone point at #6, when the Brandeis player had to retire after five games.
- Junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) opened the scoring for the Judges in singles, winning, 6-3, 6-2, at #2.
- First-year Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M./Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy) took a 6-4, 6-2, win at #4 to make it 3-1.
- Junior Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) clinched the team victory at #3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win, just before sophomore Danny Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hey School Modiin) finished his 6-4, 6-2, win at #1.
- Sophomore Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) closed out the win with the day's longest match, a 6-3, 6-7 (7-2), 10-4 win in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
