#24 men's tennis blitzes Bridgewater State, 7-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The 24th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team won for the fourth time in their last five matches with a dominant 7-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon.

  • Bridgewater State: 2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brandeis took control early by securing the doubles point with three efficient victories. 
  • Sophomore Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel / Ironi Hei School Modiin) and sophomore David Wang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai United International School) opened the scoring with a perfect 6-0 win at #2.
  • Junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) and first-year Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M. / Rafa Nadal Academy) followed with a 6-3 victory at the top spot.
  • First-years Yaseen Houwari (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Obridge Academy) and Muaz Malik (Dubai, UAE / Laurel Springs School) completed the sweep with another 6-3 win at #3.
  • In singles play, the Judges won all six matches in straight sets.
  • Lorenz was the first off the court, earning a "double-bagel" 6-0, 6-0 victory at #4
  • Shemesh added the team's third point with a clinical 6-0, 6-2 win, at the top spot.
  • Muaz Malik clinched the overall match victory for the Judges with a 6-1, 6-0 performance at #3.
  • Wang kept the momentum going, winning 6-1, 6-2, at #5.
  • Garbett survived a close first set at #2 to win 7-5, 6-0.
  • Houwari rounded out the 7-0 shutout with a 6-1, 6-4 victory, with his first collegiate dual-match victory.
