WALTHAM, Mass. – In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, the 29
th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team rolled past visiting Ithaca College, 6-1, in the Gosman Athletic Center today.
TEAM RECORDS
- Brandeis, 6-3, ranked #29 in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association
- Ithaca, 5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Judges opened by taking the doubles point, with all three matches decided by 6-4 scores. Brandeis won at #1 and #3 to take an early lead.
- After earning a win at the top doubles spot, first-year Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M. / Rafa Nadal Academy) earned the first win in singles, 6-2, 6-2, at #5.
- Sophomore Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hey School Modiin) made it 3-0 with a 6-1, 7-5, win at #1.
- The Bombers got their point with the final match of the first round of singles matches at #6.
- The clinching point was secured at #3 by first-year Muaz Malik (Dubai, UAE/Laurel Springs School), who won 6-0, 6-3. His match was followed closely by junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) winning at #2, 6-4, 7-5.
- Junior Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Richmond Green Second School) closed out the win at #4, 6-2, 6-2.
UP NEXT
- The Judges will meet their sixth ranked opponent of the season Saturday at 1 p.m. when they play host to #22 RPI.
