#32 Men's tennis pushes #4 CMS in loss to open California trip

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The #32 Brandeis men's tennis team opened its 2026 February Break trip to California with a 7-0 loss at the hands of #4-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, taking a pair of first sets in the process.

TEAM RECORDS
  • Brandeis: 1-2, ranked #32 in Division III by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
  • CMS: 4-0, ranked #4 in Division III by ITA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CMS clinched the doubles point by winning the top two matches, 6-3, 6-3.
  • The Judges pairing of junior Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Second School) and first-year Muaz Malik (Dubai, UAE/Laurel Springs School) tested the Stags at #3 before falling, 6-4.
  • In singles action, CMS picked up another sweep.
  • Brandeis highlights included junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) battling back in the second set from 5-0 down to reach 5-4 before falling, 6-2, 6-4.
  • The Judges won their only two sets of the match at #4 and #5, where Malik and Dong were competitive again.
  • Malik won the opener at #4, 6-4, before falling 0-6 and 7-10 in the super-tiebreaker in the third.
  • Dong opened his match at #5 with a 7-5 win in the first set. In the second, he pushed his opponent to a tiebreaker before losing, 6-7 (5-7), and then falling in the super-tiebreaker third, 5-10.
