Men's tennis edged in season opener vs D1 Bryant, 4-3

aCUMBERLAND, R.I. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team opened up its 2026 Spring season today with an indoor match against Division I Bryant University. The Judges were edged by the Bulldogs, 4-3, at Fore Court in Cumberland.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges got off to a fast start, winning the doubles point. After #2 and #3 split 6-4 matches, Brandeis sophomore Daniel Shemesh (Modiin, Israel/Ironi Hei School Modiin) and first-year Oliver Lorenz (Albuquerque, N.M./Rafa Nadal Academy) earned a 7-6 (7-4) victory at #1 to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The teams were tied at 2-2 after the first flight of singles, with junior Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) knocking off his opponent at #2 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win.
  • The Bulldogs pulled off the win by taking matches at #5 and #4, with a comeback three-set win. Sophomore Aidan Wang-Fan (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary School) picked up the Judges' final point at #6, 6-4, 6-2.
UP NEXT
  • Brandeis will face their second-straight DI opponent next Sunday at 1 p.m. when they play host to Holy Cross.
