WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University women's basketball senior forward
Katherine Vaughan of
Bedford, Mass., has been named the University Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 7. She was also selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association Honor Roll second team.
Vaughan led the Judges to a 1-1 week by averaging 19 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game while shooting 73.3% from the field (11-15) and 76.2% from the line (16-21). In a 76-71 win over Clark on Dec. 3, she had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, hitting 7-of-8 from the field and 12-of-14 from the line. It was her second career 20-point game and her sixth career double-double. In a 67-62 loss at Tufts on Dec. 6, Brandeis's first loss of the season, Vaughan had 14 points and 7 rebounds, shooting 5-8 from the field and 4-7 from the line. The Judges were ahead by three with two minutes remaining when Tufts used a seven-point possession after a technical foul to take the lead for good.
Overall this season, Vaughan is the Judges' second leading scorer, averaging 12.0 points per game, and second-leading rebounder at 7.8 boards per contest. She ranks 10
th in the league in scoring and fifth in rebounding. Vaughan, who is the Judges' career leader in blocked shots, has 17 this season and 114 for her career. She leads the UAA and is ranked 26
th in Division III in total blocks and 40
th in blocks per game.
In their second season under head coach
Julie Prichett, the Brandeis women's basketball team started their season 7-0 before suffering their first loss to Tufts over the weekend. The Judges will return to action on Dec. 10
th against Bridgewater State University at 5 p.m.
Vaughan is a 2022 graduate of Bedford High School.
