Men's tennis drops consolation semi to CMU, 5-2

Judges will face Rochester in 7th-place match

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Florida – The Brandeis University men's tennis team will head to the seventh-place match at the 2024 University Athletic Association tournament following a 5-2 loss to #27-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in the consolation semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges and Tartans split the two doubles matches that were contested.
  • First-year Pierce Garbett (Coral Gables, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and senior Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) teamed up for an 8-6 win at #1, breaking their opponents in the last game.
  • Brandeis first-years Harrison Huai (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) and Huasen Dong (Richmond Hill, Ont./Richmond Green Secondary School) suffered an 8-5 loss at #2.
  • CMU picked their second point at #3 doubles, where the Judges were unable to field a team.
  • The Tartans' lead increased to 3-1 without a #6 singles player for Brandeis.
  • Huai picked up his first win of the tournament at #5 singles, 6-2, 6-0, but Carnegie Mellon earned wins at #2 and #4 to clinch the victory.
  • Walters was on the precipice of a win at #1 singles, leading his opponent 6-3, 5-3, when the match ended, while Dong was locked in an even second set after winning the first, 6-3, 5-5.
