WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Brandeis University cross country teams both ran to victory this afternoon at Wellesley College. The men had a clean sweep with no competition, while the women defeated the host by a single point, 33-34, as well as beat Mount Holyoke.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• The women had five runners in the top 10 to slip past Wellesley.
• Senior Juliette Intrieri (North Salem, N.Y. / North Salem) led the way with a fourth-place finish. She completed the course in 19:28.4, only 20 seconds off the winning time by a runner from Wellesley. The time was a 13 second improvement from last year.
• Junior Zada Forde finished a mere 1.4 seconds behind Intrieri in fifth place with a time of 19:29.8.
• Senior Captain Lizzy Reynolds (Winchester, Mass./ Winchester) was seventh with a time of 19:52.4.
• Sophomore Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa. / Conestoga) improved by a minute and 22 seconds from last year with a time of 19:59.7. First-year Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine / Bangor) joined her and wrapped up the top five with a time of 20:03.7, earning herself a ninth place finish.
• The Judges' tight spread of 35 seconds amongst their top five was 50 seconds better than Wellesley's.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Local first-year Hugh Licklider (Newton, Mass. / BC High) snatched the win in his debut college race, covering the 5K course in 16:03.9.
• Senior Captain Willem Goff (Pelham, Mass. / Amherst Regional) finished second in his final Wellesley race, 23 seconds faster than year at 16:09.5.
• First-year Gabriel Levin (Los Angeles, Calif. / Harvard Westlake) was third in 16:18.2 in another successful first collegiate race.
• Junior Henry Nguyen (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Vocational Tech) was fourth in 16:30.6, and Junior Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) finished in 16:38.9 for fifth place, giving the Judges 50-second spread among their top five runners.
