Women's x-country takes 10th at East Regionals, Forde 41st

HOPKINTON, N.H. – The Brandeis University women's cross country closed their campaign with a 10-place finish at the 2023 NCAA East Regional Championship today at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds in New Hampshire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Judges scored 322 points today, finishing just nine points behind Endicott for ninth place and 35 points ahead of the University of New England. In all, 33 teams and 226 runners competed on the six-kilometer course.
  • Junior Zada Forde (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) was the Judges' top finisher for the fifth time in six meets this season, placing 41st with a time of 23:15.54, three second off a personal best for 6K. Forde finished one spot higher than she did in 2022 despite running 21 seconds faster.
  • Senior Lizzy Reynolds (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) was back to her previous form, finishing second on the team and 60th overall with a time of 23:42.16. It was her highest team finish of the season, though well off her All-Region performance from last season.
  • Junior Kyra Au (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) was third on the squad with a 69th-place performance. She ran 23:53.84, a three-second personal best over six kilometers in her first time running at regionals.
  • First-year Sadie Harrow (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) was the team's fourth runner, also in her regional debut. She was just behind Au in 72nd place, with a time of 24:00.13, 28 seconds better than her previous personal best. This was her second-straight meet as the team's fourth runner. Harrow was the 10th first-year runner to cross the line.
  • Sophomores Ella Warkentine (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) and Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) were neck-and-neck to finish as the final scorer for the Judges. Warkentine placed 80th in 24:11.90 and Briggs was two places and two seconds behind in 82nd at 24:13.12. Warkentine gave the Judges a spread of 57 second between first and fifth.
  • Senior Juliette Intrieri (North Salem, N.Y./North Salem) finished 102nd with a time of 24:56.26 to round out the top seven.
  • Across their seven finishers, the Judges had an average mile of 6:24.
  • The Judges will return to action in January for track and field season, starting on the 13th with the annual Reggie Poyau Classic.
