WALTHAM, Mass. –  Women’s track and field first-year Peterly Leroy of Malden, Massachusetts, and men’s track senior Jordan Colon of Devens, Massachusetts, have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 21. The Brandeis Athlete of the Week program is presented by The Chateau Restaurant and Jake N Joes Bar and Grill.

Leroy competed for the women’s outdoor track and field team in California over Brandeis’s April break, establishing four new school records in the process. She set new marks in the 400-meter dash and as part of the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays, while her 200-meter dash time was the fastest electronically-recorded time in program history. Her mark of 55.36 seconds in the 400-meters is ranked sixth in Division III this season. It broke a record that had stood since 1992.

Leroy and the 4x400-meter time of 3:49.69, run with classmate Jazmin Berganza, junior Shaniece Nugent and senior Hannah Bohbot-Dridi, is ranked 15th nationally this season. It broke a record held since 1999.   With first-year Sarai Sealy replacing Bohbot-Dridi, the Judges lowered the 4x100-meter mark to 48.14 seconds, while Leroy’s 24.93 seconds in the 200 meters is the lowest in Brandeis history measured electronically.

Colon, competing at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational this past weekend, broke the school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.74 seconds. He lowered the mark established by Vincent Asante ’14 in 2011 by 0.19 seconds. Colon placed seventh in his race.

Leroy, Colon and the Brandeis outdoor track and field teams are competing this weekend at the University Athletic Association championships in New York City.
