WALTHAM, Mass. –  Senior Ryan Power of the men’s basketball team and junior Zada Forde of the women’s cross country team have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 12, 2023. The award is presented weekly by the Chateau Restaurant Group.

Power, a native of Waltham, Massachusetts, helped the men’s basketball team to a season-opening win over UMass Dartmouth on Nov. 11, 86-77. He led a group of four Judges who scored in double figures with 17 points, one shy of a career-best. He also grabbed six rebounds, made a career-high three steals and tied for the team lead with four assists. Power shot 6-for-10 from the field, 2-for-2 from 3-point range and 3-for-4 from the line. The win tied the all-time series between Brandeis and UMass Dartmouth at 16 wins apiece.

The 1-0 Judges return to action on Saturday with a contest at Rivier University at 12 pm. It will be just the third-ever meeting between the two schools.

Forde, of Amherst, Massachusetts, was the team’s top runner at the 2023 NCAA East Regional Championships. Brandeis’s first finisher in five of the team’s six meets this season, Forde placed 41st at the regionals, improving by one place over her finish a year ago. She ran the six-kilometer course in 23:15.54, just three seconds shy of a personal best. The Brandeis women’s cross country team finished in 10th place at the regionals to end their season. Forde will compete for the Judges during indoor track and field season.

This is the eighth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes
