Half Moon Bay, California, and the women’s basketball team, have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 16. The Brandeis Athlete of the Week program is presented by The Chateau Restaurant and Jake n JOES Sports Grille.
Correnti, a goalkeeper, helped the 18th-ranked Brandeis men’s soccer team reach the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament over the weekend at Gordon Field. On Saturday, November 15, he made five saves in a 2-1 win over Stevens Institute of Technology, including three in the final seven minutes after the Judges had taken the lead. On Sunday, November 16, Correnti made a career-high eight saves as the Judges took top-ranked Tufts University into double overtime before falling, 1-0, in the 101st minute.
For the season, Correnti finished with a 1.17 goals-against average and 57 saves for a 0.731 save percentage. He started all but one game for the Judges and played all but 103 minutes in net in his senior season. Brandeis finished with a 10-4-5 record, their highest win total since 2019, and their first trip to the NCAA Division III tournament since 2017.
Kennedy led the Judges in scoring last week, averaging 27 points per game on 35.4% shooting from the floor, 38.9% from 3-point range and a perfect 13-for-13 from the line. In a 77-66 home win over Rhode Island College on Nov. 13, she scored a career-high 28 points, hitting 10-of-23 overall, 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 5-of-5 from the line. In a 74-64 win on the road at Framingham State on Nov. 15, Kennedy scored 26 points, on 7-of-25 shooting, 4-of-13 from deep and 8-of-8 from the line. In a more recent 64-39 win over Rivier on Tuesday evening, Kennedy added 20 more points, including 11 in the first period when she outperformed the entire Raider lineup as Brandeis outscored them 20-5.
Including the game against Rivier, Kennedy is second in the University Athletic Association in scoring, averaging 22 points per game. Her 110 points, 38 field goals, and 23 free throws are most in the league, while her 11 3-pointers are second-most. Brandeis is off to a 5-0 start in head coach Julie Prichett’s second season on the sideline, their best start since the 2009-10 campaign.
Both student-athletes were also recognized by outside organizations for their recent play. Correnti added his second University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week honor for his performance, while Kennedy was named to the New England Women’s Basketball Association Weekly Honor Roll.
