WALTHAM, Mass. –  Senior Selenya Gonzalez of the women’s basketball team and senior Sam Adusei of the men’s basketball team have been named the Brandeis University Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 28, 2023. The award is presented weekly by the Chateau Restaurant Group.

Gonzalez, a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, was honored after scoring a career-high 16 points – tying her previous career-best with nine in the first half – of the Judges’ 64-58 loss to Roger Williams on Nov. 27. She hit 5-of-13 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-of-6 from the line in the contest, while contributing two rebounds an assist and a steal. Gonzalez also had six points, two rebounds and an assist in a 79-44 loss at Babson on Nov. 21.

The Judges return to action on Thursday, Nov. 29, at Rivier University.

Adusei, of Worcester, Massachusetts, also had a hot second half in a recent Judges’ contest, scoring 16 of career-high-tying 18 points in the second half against Rhode Island College on Nov. 26, to lead the Judges to a 66-51 road victory. He also had three rebounds, two assist and two steals. Adusei hit 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from 3-point rage and 4-of-6 from the line in the win. Adusei also had four points, three rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot in a 78-65 loss at Babson on Nov. 22.

The Judges are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 28, with a home game against Plymouth State.

This is the eighth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes
