Volleyball falls to two UAA opponents on last day of conference play

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Brandeis University volleyball team dropped its last two University Athletic Association matches, falling to #10 Carnegie Mellon, 3-0, and New York University, 3-0. The Judges dropped to 10-10 (0-7 UAA) on the season; at the end of the day's matches, Carnegie Mellon is 22-1 (6-1 UAA) and NYU is 5-19 (1-6 UAA).

AGAINST #10 CARNEGIE MELLON (25-13, 25-18, 25-21)

  • Freshman Clare Meyers (Richfield, Wisc. / Slinger) led the Judges with eight kills, her highest total since she had 12 in the season opener against Wellesley.

  • Junior Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) was the lone Judge to achieve double-digit assists, with 10. Rookie Megan Osorio Moran (Hollywood, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas) had six assists.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) had a match-high 16 digs; classmate Jillian Haberli (Cheshire, Conn. / Cheshire) added eight digs.

  • Cho also added five service aces, tying her season-high.

  • The Judges hit .059 for the match (26K-19E-118TA).

AGAINST NYU (25-22, 25-20, 26-24)

  • Rookie Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) achieved her second career double-double, leading the Judges with 10 kills and also contributing 10 assists.

  • Junior Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif. / Fountain Valley) almost joined Borgert in the double-digit kill club, amassing nine.

  • Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, IL / Walter Payton College Prep) led the Judges with 14 assists.

  • Cho once again led the Judges in digs, this time compiling 13. Meyers just missed double digits, digging the ball nine times.

  • The Judges hit .123 for the match (34K-21E-106TA).


  • Emory swept NYU: 25-13, 25-21, 25-17

  • Carnegie Mellon upset #4 Emory in five sets: 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13


  • Brandeis travels west next weekend for the Hall of Fame Invitational, first playing Worcester State on Friday, October 20 at 5 PM.

  • Carnegie Mellon returns home to host the well-named Carnegie Mellon Invitational, playing Denison on Friday, October 20 at 8 PM.

  • NYU also plays next at home, hosting Montclair State for Family Day on Thursday, October 19 at 7 PM.
