Men's track and field one of seven programs to earn All-Academic recognition

Brandeis Athletics 2017-18 Team All-Academic Recognition

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University department of athletics has had seven programs earn Team All-Academic awards from their respective coaches associations for reaching a cumulative team GPA. 

  • The track and field program, under the guidance of Sinead Evans, was honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for both the men and the women. The men boasted a 3.44 team GPA, while the women checked in at 3.35. The Judges had six individuals win All-Academic honors by earning top a top-50 national ranking in the Division III individual rankings or top 35 ranking in a relay event while maintaining a 3.30 GPA: twin sisters Emily and Julia Bryson '19 for the women, and Regan Charie '19, Scott Grote '19, Churchill Perry '19 and Ryan Stender '18 for the men.
  • The swimming and diving programs were honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the spring semester for achieving a team 3.20 GPA. With a cumulative GPA of 3.53 for the men and 3.40 for the women, both squads kept up impressive streaks. The women were honored for the 54th semester in a row, while the men were recognized for the 11th time in the past 12 semesters.
  • The volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as AVCA Team Academic Award winners. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The Judges finished their year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.52. This marks the second-straight year that Brandeis has been honored under head coach Alesia Vaccari and the fifth time overall in program history.
  • The Brandeis men's and women's tennis teams were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for reaching the 3.20 threshold for the fourth year in a row. The women checked in with a 3.55 cumulative GPA, while the men were at 3.47. In addition, the Judges placed nine individuals on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team for reaching a 3.50 cumulative GPA. The award winners were David Aizenberg '20, Zach Cihlar '19 and Ethan Saal '19 for the men and Isabela Cepeda '21, Haley Cohen '18, Diana Dehterevich '20, Keren Khromchenko '19, Olivia Leavitt '19 and Michele Lehat '19 for the women. The Judges are coached by Ben Lamanna.
