MEDFORD, Mass.- The Brandeis track and field team participated in the Snowflake Classic at Tufts University last Saturday. The men placed ninth out of sixteen teams with 30.5 points, and the women placed sixth out of fifteen teams with 36 points.
Senior Adam Berger (Concord, N.H. / Concord) placed sixth in the long jump with 6.16m (20'2"). Berger also led the Judges in the 200-meter dash, placing 13th with a time of 24.21 seconds (23.87 in the preliminaries). Junior Jeremy Wilson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) was 10th in the 400m dash with 53.82 seconds.
Senior Grady Ward (Essex Junction, Vt. / Essex) led the five Brandeis participants in the 1500m run with a time of 4:08.42, coming in ninth place.
In the 400-meter hurdles, rookie Henry McDonald (Weymouth, Mass. / Weymouth) led the Judges running 1:00.70, good for seventh place. Senior Trevor Tuplin (Weymouth, Mass. / Weymouth) followed in eighth at 1:01.90.
Senior Kevin Trotman (Bristol, Conn. / Taft School) was eighth in the discus throw, hurling 35.96m (118 ft), and rookie Scott Grote (Greenfield, Mass. / Greenfield) followed in ninth place with 35.89m (117'9"). Grote led Brandeis in the shot put with a throw of 8.70m (28'6"), placing 19th.
In the women's competition, sophomore Haliana Burhans (Charlotte, Vt. / Champlain Valley Union) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash finals with a time 13.48 seconds. Burhans also sprinted the 200-meter dash in 27.17 seconds for sixth place. Senior Tove Freeman Oakham, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) was fifth the 400-meter dash finals with 1:00.86.
Senior Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass. / Notre Dame Acad.) led Brandeis in the 1500-meter run, coming in third place with 4:43.61. Sophomore Kyra Shreeve was eighth at 4:56.94. Rookie Julia Bryson (Quincy, Mass. / North Quincy) was fourth in the 3000-meter race, running 10:46.38.
The quartet of Freeman, rookies Ramani Dayon (Newark, N.J. / University) and Maya Sands-Bliss (Williamsburg, Mass. / Amherst Regional), and Burhans won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:17.64, besting their competition by six seconds.
Senior Ashley Klein (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) finished seventh in the javelin throw with 30.21m (99'1").
