Indoor track and field teams open season at Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass.--The Brandeis men and women's track and field teams competed for the first time this season at the Jay Casirella Invitational on Saturday, December 4 hosted by Northeastern University. It was a non-scoring meet.

On the women's side, the Judges had two top-five finishes in the meet. Junior Lily Parenteau (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) finished in fourth place in the high jump, with a height of 1.57 meters.  Senior Lucia Capano (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) finished fourth in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.92 meters.  Capano also finished in sixth place in the long jump (5.12 meters) and in 13th place in preliminaries of the 55 meter dash (7.61). 

Sophomore Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) finished in 7th place in the triple jump with a distance of 10.45 meters.  The women's 4x400 meter relay finished in fourth place.

On the men's side, Brandeis put two rookies in the top 10.  Rookie Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Arts Imagination and Inquiry) came in fourth place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.61 seconds. His time of 6.56 seconds in the prelims was just two-hundredths of a second off the school record.  Classmate Taylor Dundas (Bath, Maine/Cheverus) finished the 1 mile race in seventh place with a time of 4:27.53.  Asante also finished in 15th place for the Judges in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.35. 

Sophomore Brian Foley (Foxboro, Mass./Foxborough) was the top finisher for the team in the 400 meter dash, coming in 21st with a time of 51.90. In field events, Brandeis was led by rookie Kris Stinehart (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) who came in 39th in the shot put, with a distance of 11.11 meters.

The Judges are next in action at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, December 11.
