LOS ANGELES, Calif – Against their third – and highest-ranked – top 40 opponent of the season, the #19 Brandeis women's tennis team suffered an 9-0 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College in the conclusion to the Judges' February break trip to California. The Judges fall to 4-1 on the season, while the Athenas improve to 8-0.
Brandeis's top doubles match came at No. 2, where senior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs Prep) and rookie Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) dropped an 8-4 decision. CMS won the No. 1 and 3 matches by 8-1 scores.
In singles action, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps players lost one or zero games in wins at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6 to pick up the win. Cohen tested Nicole Tan at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1, and junior Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./Allied Academy of Health and Sciences) dropped a 6-2, 6-3, decision at No. 3.
The Judges return to New England and take on #22 MIT on the road next Friday afternoon and #32 Wellesley next Saturday.
