SOMERVILLE, Mass. (courtesy Tufts Sports Information) - The ninth-ranked Brandeis University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw at Tufts University this afternoon. The Judges receive their first blemish of the season but remain unbeaten at 8-0-1. Tufts moves to 3-0-3 after their second-straight tie.
The Judges took a 1-0 early lead in the 11th minute with a goal by senior Jessica Morana (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury). Tufts sophomore goalie Emily Bowers saved two shots before bobbling the ball to let Morana shoot it into the goal.
Tufts netted the equalizer on a goal by senior Jess Capone. She got a rebound in front of the goal from Brooke Fortin's shot. With Brandeis goalie Alexis Grossman (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) on the ground Capone put it in the bottom right corner of the goal to tie the game up at 1-1 in the 55th minute. It was just the second goal surrendered by Grossman this season.
Bowers saved 10 shots for the home team while Grossman saved two for the Judges.
In the first half, Brandeis outshot the Jumbos 12-2, but the final tally was 18-11 in favor of the Judges.
Brandeis travels to play Wellesley on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Jumbos return home to play MIT for the last game in September on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
