WALTHAM, Mass.- On Senior Day, the Brandeis Women's Soccer team faced a tough UAA matchup at home against 21st-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The Judges celebrated the excellent four year careers of their seniors, goalie Francine Kofinas (Dix Hills, N.Y./ Half Hollow Hills West) and midfielder Zoe Siegel (Erie, Pa./ McDowell), but the Tartans proved to be too much to handle. Brandeis fell 4-0, moving to 12-4-2 (1-3-2 UAA) while Carnegie Mellon improved to 11-1-3 (4-1-1 UAA).
In the first half, it was a fairly even battle. The Tartans held a slight 5-3 edge in shots and 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. However, Carnegie Mellon made the most of their chances. They managed to score two goals in the 8th and 28th minutes, pulling away before Brandeis really got out of the gate. The second half was slightly more lopsided as the Judges conceded two more goals and were outshot 16-3.
Kofinas recorded a season-high 61:03 minutes while allowing two goals and making two saves. Sophomore keeper Michelle Savuto (Ridgewood, N.J./ Ridgewood) played the other 28:57 minutes, also conceding two goals and recording two saves. The Brandeis goalies also got some help from sophomore defender Emma Eddy (Hinesburg, Vt./ Champlain Valley Union) who cleared the ball off the line to save goals in the 46th and 62nd minutes. For the Tartans, junior goalie Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Summit Country Day) played 86:29 while making two saves and senior Becca Gold (Beverly Hills, Calif./ Beverly Hills) played the final 3:31. Rookie midfielder Mathilde Robinson (Palmetto Bay, Fla./ Miami Palmetto) led the Judges offense with two shots including one shot on goal. Carnegie Mellon was led by junior forward Alex Venegas (Los Angeles, Calif./ Harvard-Westlake School) who scored two goals, one in each half, and had an assist for a five point afternoon.
