Joe Coppens, a 2008 Brandeis graduate, returned to the Judges' sideline in 2011-12 as an assistant coach. Coppens was named a fourth-team All-American by D3hoops.com as a senior, when he led the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game and helped the Judges to a school-record 23 victories. Brandeis reached the Elite Eight of the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament, defeating Lasell College and Bowdoin College at home and Plattsburgh State University on the road. Coppens was the 20th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau and currently ranks 22nd overall. He is also fifth in school history with 151 career 3-pointers. Coppens spent the 2010-11 season as an intern with the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association.
