Sheryl Sousa has been Director of Athletics at Brandeis University since 2004, where she oversees 19 varsity sports and a robust club, recreation and physical education program. She was a member of the ECAC Board of Directors from 2005 to 2009 and currently sits on the ECAC Finance Committee. In the winter of 2015, she was promoted to Associate Vice President of Health and Wellness and Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation.

In her tenure as AD, Sousa has seen Judges teams win eight ECAC tournament titles and make 17 NCAA tournament appearances, including the program's first-ever berths in women's basketball and softball. She served as a member of the NCAA Fencing committee for three years, acting as tournament director for the 1999 and 2004 National Collegiate championships. Sousa has also seen upgrades to the program's soccer, track and field, tennis, swimming and diving and baseball facilities, as well as to the University's recreation program, over the past decade. In 2007, Brandeis was presented with the prestigious ECAC Jostens Institution of the Year Award.

Prior to being promoted to Director of Athletics, Sousa had been associate director of athletics, as well as women's volleyball coach, at Brandeis since July of 1998. As an undergraduate at Brandeis, Sousa was a four-year letter-winner for the Judges' softball and volleyball teams, serving as captain of both teams in both her junior and senior years. She earned the University's Morris Sepinuck Sportsmanship Award as a senior.

A native of Lowell, Mass., Sousa graduated from Brandeis in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in American Studies. She served as an Asa S. Bushnell Intern for the ECAC in 1990-91, then took a position as assistant director of athletics and senior women's administrator at Ithaca College.

In 1992, Sousa was appointed assistant director of marketing and volleyball coach at Binghamton University, where she earned her Master of Arts degree in Social Sciences. As head coach, she led the Bearcats to three ECAC and one NCAA tournament appearance and was named New York Region Coach of the Year in 1995. Sousa was promoted to associate director of athletics at Binghamton in 1994 and served in that position until joining the Brandeis staff in 1998.
